MANY PRESSED TO PAY
WESTPORT SHOPKEEPERS STATEMENT REPEATED IN HOUSE Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. At. a meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce this week attention was drawn by Mr. J. Myers to a statement by Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, that some warehouses were pressing the West.port retailers for payment of their accounts. It was suggested that Mr. Holland be asked to give the names of the warehouse people concerned or withdraw his statement. Today Mr. Holland said he stood by his statement, but refused to divulge the names, which had confidentially been given him. Those merchants who had been most magnanimous were footwear merchants. Others had also been generous, but some had pressed for their accounts. He hoped the ventilation of the matter would remedy the position, as neither the Westport shopkeepers nor the public were able to pay yet.
