HERD-TESTING SCHEMES
PROPOSALS BY EXECUTIVE NEED FOR ORGANISER Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. At the first meeting of the herdtesting central executive body of eight members, recently set up by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Dynes Fulton, of Hamilton, presided. It was considered desirable to appoint a capable organiser, whose duties would not only include organisation work, but would also operate in the direction of assisting to maintain herd-testing work on an efficient basis. It was agreed that this officer should be appointed by the New Zealand Herd-testing Federation, and that it be a recommendation to the Government that a grant be made in connection with the necessary expenses. The executive also resolved that, while recommending that the herdtesting movement should continue to he fostered by Government assistance in the form of an annual subsidy or a grant, its aim should be the bringing about of conditions which would enable the movement to be self-sup-porting. Regarding the payment of last season's subsidy, the department advised that the necessary declarations had now been sent out, and, as soon as these were received back in proper order, the money could be paid out. Permission has been granted, where circumstances render such action necessary, for associations to utilise the cash for current expenses so long as it is passed on to members not later than October 20. It is anticipated that the establishment of this representative body, all members of which take a keen interest in herd-testing, will be of great value in consolidating and furthering this important movement.
