“MOTOR-CYCLES OF AIR”
PRINCE INSPECTS LIGHT BRITISH CRAFT OLYMPIA EXHIBITION British Official lrire.'css RUGBY, Thursday. The international character of the Aero Exhibition at Olympia was very noticeable on its opening day yesterday. Representatives of nearly 40 nations inspected the exhibits. The Prince of Wales spent several hours at the show. He climbed into the cockpit of machines and examined the controls. Also he discussed the designs of the British and foreign machines on view. He talked about the developments in flying with many pioneers who, in the early days, constructed and precariously flew their own craft. The Prince showed special interest in the American, German, French and Italian machines shown and in the remarkable display of British light airplanes. These latter promise to be the future “motor-cyeies of the air.” Among the light machines are single-seaters which cost less than £ 400, with a cruising speed of 80 miles an hour. Their running costs are less than one penny a mile. Their wings can be folded and the machine can be housed in an ordinary garage.
