CHILEAN TRANSPORT SINKS IN STORM thirty-nine lives lost (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) VANCOUVER, Monday. A message from Valparaiso. Chile, reports a tragic marine disaster. In a storm which raged all day the l hilean transport Abtao sank off Valparaiso. Thirty-nine of the men on board at the time were drowned. One survivor was rescued. The Abtao was originally the German ship Ernst Hemsoth, built at >-mden in 1923. She was a vessel of 1 124 tons, and was one of the naval transports.
