The council had considered that there was ample scope for a too. logical society in Auckland, the prim, ary objects of which would be to encourage the study of zoology jj the Dominion and in the Auckland provincial district in particular; to promote a knowledge and interest in the native fauna of New Zealand and to encourage its protection: to pro. vide for the steady acquisition, for the Auckland Zoological Park, of a representative collection of fauna of the world. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Governor-Gen. eral. Sir Charles Fergusson; ricepatron, the Mayor of Auckland (ex officio); president. Professor j. Sperrin-Johnson; vice-presidents, 8b Edwin Mitchelson, Sir George Fowld, Professor Thomas. Messrs. J. Coun' A. Bankart. A. N. Nathan. H. g' Vaile and F. C. Mappin; secretary Mr. T. \t . M. Ashby; hon. editor o' the society’s publications, Mr. L. T Griffin; members’ representatives on the board of managers, Messrs. F. E. McKenzie, \V. R. McGregor, Dr. U. Gilmour and Mr. A. T. Pycroft. Mr! J. D. Richardson was elected honor! ary photographer.
In acknowledgment of past ser. vices to the zoo Mr. John Court wai elected an honorary life member.
