AFTER THE DANCE
CAR LANDS IN DITCH DRIVER FINED £lO (Special to THE SUE’) HAMILTON, Wednesday. The story of a young man who drove a new car to a dance, collided with another car and then failed to stop, was told in the Police Court today. when James Terrence Cleary. 20, a farm labourer, of Rotorua, admitted a charge of dangerous driving arid failing to stop after an accident had occurred. _ . , ~ , Senior- Sergeant Sweeney said that on June 30 the defendant drove a large new car with a party ot young men and women to a dance at Cambridge. They- returned at midnight, and when at Tamahere defendant s car struck another car. He did not stop although considerable damage had ’ been done to the other car. Cleary’s car ended up in a ditch at To Rapa The accident was not reported and it was only after inquiries had been made that the offences were traced to defendant. Mr. W. J. Kins said Cleary had been driving for ten years, and had never been in trouble for negligent driving. The magistrate. Mr. Wyvern \\ ilson described the case as a bad one. He fined Cleary £lO, and suspended his driver's licence for six months.
