The Log Book

PERSONAL.—Captain W. D. Cameron, who has completed his holiday, has rejoined the Wahine, B. B. Irwin, who has resumed command of the Maori. Captain G. B. Morgan is at present awaiting instructions. Captain G. B. Corby, of the Kaikorai, is taking command of the Kaiwarra, relieving Captain A. R. Stewart for further orders. The Kawatiri has been placed in commission at "Wellington and is in command of Captain A. Reed. His deck officers are as follow; Chief, Mr. F. G. Mabb; second, Mr. R. C. Ingram; third, Mr. 11. M. Hughes. The Kaponga was also recommissioned at Wellington on Tuesday with Captain G. A. Grey in command. Messrs. J. B. Gibson and S. PI. Crawford are acting chief and second officers respectively. Mr. C. Burgess has been appointed chief officer of the Maheno temporarily vice Mr. D. N. McLeish, who is transferring to the Wahine in a similar capacity., relieving Mr. J. Dawson for instructions. Mr. L. G. Ramsay has joined the Kiwitea as temporary chief officer, relieving Mr. J. E. Warwick for holidays. Captain P. B. Clarke, D.S.C., -who was chief officer of the Federal vessel Northumberland two voyages ago, is now commander of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Otaki. Mr. B’. A. Orr, who was chief officer of the Federal Company’s Northumberland when she was last at Auckland, is now living at Gourock, Scotland, and is one of the Glasgow pilots. KALIN GO COMING.—The Northern steamship Company has been advised that the Lamb steamer Kalingo cleared Port Stephens, New South Wales, on Tuesday evening last foi- Auckland, Tauranga and Gisborne. She has a cargo of timber and should reach Auckland on Monday next. PORT VICTOR AT LONDON.—Cabled news has been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Victor ai'rived at London on Monday morning from Wellington, via Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro. The vessel sailed from Wellington on June 1. ANGLO-INDIAN SAILING. —Messrs. R. Millar and Company hope to dispatch the Nitrate Producers’ vessel Anglo-In-dian tomorrow afternoon for Australian ports to complete discharging her cargo of sulphur from Galveston. Texas. Her first port of call has not yet been announced. She is at present unloading at King’s Wharf. CANADIAN CONQUEROR FOR WELLINGTON.—The Canadian National Steamships vessel Canadian Conqueror was announced to sail at 2 o’clock this afternoon for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin to complete discharging cargo from Montreal and Sydney (Nova Scotia). After unloading operations have been concluded the Canadian Conqueror is to start loading for New Y'ork, Boston and Montreal, and is expected to arrive back at Auckland to complete filling up at the beginning of August. She is to sail finally from this port in the first week of that month.

TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO SERVICE.— The Waitemata, from "Wellington, is due at Melbourne today and at Sydney on July 23, and will go thence to Vancouver, via Suva.

The Waiherao, from Pacific Coast ports, via Napier, arrived at Lyttelton on July 15 and will leave today for Dunedin, Bluff and New Plymouth. She will proceed thence to Westport and Vancouver. The Haux-aki left Los Angeles on July 15 for Auckland direct, where she is due on August 6, and will go thence to Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, and return to Vancouver direct. The Waiotapu will leave Los Angeles on Satuiday for Papeete, Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney, and is due at Auckland on August 17. The Wairuna left Auckland on June 26 for Vancouver direct, where she is due on July 22, and will clear the Pacific Coast on August 10 for Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Nelson, New Plymouth and possibly Wellington. The Waikawa will leave Suva on July 20 for Vancouver, where she is due on August 10. She will clear the Pacific Coast oil September 3 for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney.

NORTHUMBERLAND ARRIVES.—An arrival in the stream at 12.15 o’clock this morning was the Federal vessel Northumberland from Liverpool. She berthed at Prince's Wharf at 10.30 a.m. The vessel brings a general West Coast United Kingdom cargo, which she loaded at Newport, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, the last port being cleared on June 8. The Northumberland called at Curacao for fuel oil on June 22 and left there the same day. The Panama Canal was cleared on June 26 and a dh-ect passage was made to Auckland. The weather throughout the voyage was moderate with occasional strong winds, and the trip was uneventful. The Northumberland is one of the Federal Company’s cadet ships and she has 33 apprentices aboard this trip. Besides cargo the vessel brought 433 bags of second class mail for New Zealand.

Captain H. L. Upton commands the Northumberland, and he has associated with him the following officers: Chief officer, Mr. J. S. Oxnard; second, Mr. F. F. Renny; third, Mr. J. G. Phillips; fourth. Mr. R. S. Miller; surgeon. Dr. B. E. Clifton: chief engineer, Mr. J. B. Dick; second, Mr. J. Kemp; third, Mr. R. Armour; fourth. Mr. T. Niven; chief refx*igerating engineer, Mr. C. Nicholson; schoolmaster, Mr. M. Bostock; chief steward, Mr. R. Swift: wireless operators, Messrs. M. Savage axid R. Glover.

The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent for the Northumberland, and the vessel will later be dispatched for Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and New Plymouth to complete discharging.

CERASUS TO DOCK. —On completion of her discharge of phosphates from Juan de Nova, the steamer Cerasus will dock on Tuesday to have her hull cleaned and painted before proceeding to Westport for bunkers.

CAMBRIDGE EN ROUTE. —The Federal Bine steamer Cambridge, which left Auckland on June 7 for New York, Boston, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, is reported to have left New York on Friday for Boston.

TARANAKI CLEARS COLON. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion motor-ship Taranaki. which left Auckland on June 23 for London, via Panama, after completing loading in New Zealand, is reported to hate cleared Colon on Monday.

CITY OF LINCOLN AT NEW YORK.— The City of Lincoln, which is en route from Philadelphia to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, is reported to have reached New York on Monday. The vessel is scheduled to clear New York on July 30 for New Zealand. HERTFORD LEAVES PANAMA.— The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal Line steamer Hertford cleared Panama on Friday en route from Liverpool to Auckland, where she is due about August 1. The vessel has cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington and Southern ports. TOFU A AT SUVA. —The Union Company’s Island steamer Tofua, which was dispatched from Auckland on Saturday morning with passengers, mail and cargo for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, is reported to have arrived at Suva at nine o’clock last evening. The vessel is due back at Auckland on August 5. PORT GISBORNE SAILS TOMORROW. —The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Company advises that the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Gisborne now leaves Auckland at noon tomorrow for Wellington, thence Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete her discharge of New York cargo. Later the vessel loads in the South and returns to Auckland on August 23 to fill up for New York, Boston and London. MAHENO FROM SYDNEY. —The Maheno, which arrived at Wellington on Tuesday from Sydney, brought the following passengers:—First class: Mr. S. A. Angus, Mrs. J. Arthur, Master J. Arthur, Mr. H.
