GIANNINI’S SUCCESS
ENTHUSIASM IN SYDNEY GIFTED SOPRANO Signorina Dusolina Giannini, the Italian-American dramatic soprano, continues her successes in Sydney, and some rare scenes of enthusiasm have been seen in the Town Hall. The Sydney “Morning Herald says: “Scenes of continued enthusiasm were witnessed last night at the Town Hall, when another large audience was excited to demonstrative applause by the emotional gifts of Signorina Giannini. In a concert which included “Ritorna Vincitor,” “Vissi d’arte," “Voi che sapete,” and other music, the versatility, unfailing charm, and vitality of the singer stirred the people to excited “Bravos:” At the end of the programme there was a succession of recalls, with the audience manifestly willing to remain in the hall indefinitely and listen to as much of such delightful singing as the artist was willing to give them.” In an earlier criticism of one of Giannini’s concerts, the Sydney “Morning Herald” wrote. “The visit of Signorina Dusolina Giannini, will remain memorable by reason of the distinguished art of this gifted soprano. It is rare indeed to hear a singer who combines in her music so many of the qualities of success, and is able to exhibit such vitality and imaginative power, and to employ tonal colour with so much variety and distinction. One must go back to the time of Calve’s visit to recall any feminine singer so graphic and subtle in the use of this colour, and so versatile in her charm.” Mr. E. J. Gravestock is arranging to bring Giannini to New Zealand in September next.
