REGULATION—NOT LAW
SUPREME COURT RULING Press Association PALMERSTON N-, Today. “In spite of the right-hand rule a man cannot drive on across an intersection if he sees that there is likely to be a collision,” said Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., during a motor collision case at Palmerston North. “The effect of a recent decision by Mr. Justice Reed is that the rule is a traffic regulation only, and does not affect the common law rule as to negligence. Where the right-hand rule operates, a man coming in from the right must stop if there is likely to be a collision. He cannot carry on regardless of the traffic.”
