NEW CHOIR FOR IYA
FIRST PERFORMANCE IN AUGUST MANY APPLICATIONS On the suggestion of the IYA Musical and Dramatic Committee, a new choir has been formed to give entertainment from the station. The choir lias been chosen from more than 60 applicants and contains 32 voices, and Mr. Len Barnes, the conductor, has obtained a well-balanced combination. The first performance of the choir will be given on August 6. when Sir William Stexndale Bennett’s ‘ The Mav QQWfIT will bo sung. The soloists Vffl be Miss Millicent O'Grady, soprano (the May Queen). Miss Madge Taj-lor, mezzo-soprano (the Queen), Mr. Lambert Harvey, tenor (the Lover) and Mr. E. M. Xewling. baritone (the Captain of the Foresters). All the soloists, except Mr. Harvey, are members of the choir The choir hopes to be heard at frequent intervals, and already arrangements have been made to perform two of Elgar s works in September on a night to be given up wholly to that composer. They wdll be “The Songs of the Bavarian Highlands” and “The Banner of St. George.” The members of the choir are:—Mrs. B. Barclay, Mrs. H. L. Timmings, Misses G. V. Brooke. M. Davison. S. W.
