BOY KILLED BY BEATING
TERRIBLE PUNISHMENT FOR STEALING JAM LABOURER SENT TO GAOL MELBOURNE, Tuesday. Herbert Bownds, a middle-aged labourer, was today sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for manslaughter. Evidence was given to the effect that accused, on June 17, beat a boy, Albert Foster, so severely with the buckle end of a strap that the lad died. His offence was stealing some jam.
