For Catholic Church Funds

DANCE AT PAPAKURA A dance was held in the Star Theatre, Papakura, in aid of the j Catholic Church funds. There was a good attendance and a happy evening was spent. The music was supplied by Mr. Reg Schollam and the extras by Miss Lily Grant and Miss Josephine Nobbs. Supper was provided by the women’s committee. During the evening a euchre tournament was held, and the winners were Mr. H. W. McEntee and Mrs. S. Nobbs. The spot waltz was won by Mr. Vic Ashby and Miss O. Braijche. Mr. Harold Bates and partner won the Monte Carlo competition. Among those present were: Mrs. G. Young (Mount Albert), who wore shell pink ninon and satin with Mrs. L. Hansby was gowned in black and beige. Mrs. Harrison had on navy silk marocain, with touches of gold. Mrs. J. a. Wistiart was in blue ring velvet, relieved with silver. Mrs. Edmonds (Auckland), wore navy velvet georgette, sleeves and diamente Mrs. Baird (Epsom) had on black satin with overdress of black lace and gold. Miss O. Branche was in apricot crepedo chine. Miss Gloria Geraghty (Ruawai), was flocked in ciel blue taffeta. Mists Beryl King wore delphinium blue crepe de chine with tiered skirt. Miss Mary Hayes (Drury), was in salmon pink crepe de chine. Miss L. Robinson (Drury), wearing powder blue crepe de chine. Miss Kathleen Fitzpatrick’s frock was of blue shot taffeta with uneven hemline. Miss F. Fitzpatrick had on crimson crepo de chine trimmed with silver lace. Miss AT. Baird (Auckland) wore a ring velvet frock with scarlet rose posy. Miss Phyllis Harrison's frock was of blue crepe de chine, with silver lace. Miss Violet Clarke wore an accordion pleated georgette frock. Miss AT. Smith had on a georgette and silver lace frock. Alisa A tolly Egan (Karaka), wearing midnight blue georgette. .Miss Queenie Buckeridge was in gold chiffon velvet. Aliss Kellie Millar (Waiuku), wore navy blue crepe made with flared skirt. Miss Gladys Ross was* in navy blue and fawn. Aliss R. Geraghty's frock was of champagne georgette. . , . Aliss Josephine Xobbs, wearing black georgette and silver lace. Miss AT. Donovan had on black crepe de chine with touches of cerise. Aliss A. Donovan’s frock of green crepe dc chine was beaded in silver. Aliss E. Guillard wore blue taffeta and appliqued roses. . . _ _ Aliss Margaret Wright was in black ring velvet. Miss AT. Green’s frock was cream crepe de chine, relieved with pink. Miss Grace Martin had on wallflower ring velvet and lace. Miss Dolly Martin wore a beige and champagne crepe de chine frock. Miss Janet Gittlewood was in rose crepe de chine and rose lame.

FAREWELL PARTIES

NUMEROUS FUNCTIONS FOR THAMES RESIDENT MRS WILSON LEAVING Many enjoyable parties were given at Thames as a farewell to Mrs. Adam Wilson, wife of the manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been transferred to Gisborne. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. \V. Bongard, gave a delightful jazz and music evening at their home, the rooms being massed with spring flowers. Airs. Bongard wore a smart frock of wedgwood blue lace and chiffon. Airs. Wilson had on mulberry ring velvet. Songs by Airs. W. Watson and Dr. Gray, and a piano solo by Airs. Bongard added to the pleasure of the guests. Those present included: Airs. Gray, Airs. Guy Shaw, Airs. Blennerhasset. Airs. W. Watson, Mrs. E. Watson, Airs. George Price, Airs. Bryan. Airs. W. Watson gave an afternoon bridge party for Airs. Wilson. Bouvardius and cyclamen graced the tea tabic, and yellow jonquils and marigolds made a colourful note in the reception room. Airs. Watson’s frock was reseda green georgette with godets of lace and diamente. The guest of honour was gowned in garnet velvet. Those present included: —Airs. E. J. Clendon, Airs. E. F. Aditms, Airs. U. ANNUAL SOCIAL AND DANCE HELD BY OTAHUHU TENNIS CLUB J J GREEN AND GOLD STREAMERS The Kingsford Hall, Otahuhu, was tastefully decorated with streamers of green and gold on Monday evening, on the occasion of the annual social and prize night held by the Otahuhu Tennis Club. Ala inland's orchestra provided a pleasing programme of dance numbers, and .Aliss AT. Pinkey played several extras. The duties of master of cerefnonies were carried out by Air. Phil White. During the evening, between dances, Air. R. L. Brown, president of the club, presented the trophies won during the season by the members in the club competitions. The successful competitors were as follow:—Alen’s championship singles, Air. J. Aluir; ladies’ chain - | pionship singles, Aliss M. AlcLachlan; ! men’s handicap singles, Air. D. A PRESENTATION The opportunity was taken to present to Al.r. and Airs. K. O’Hara, in honour of their recent marriage, a silver teapot, suitably inscribed, as an expression of esteem from their club friends. Among those present were: Airs. Whiteley, who wore black beaded georgette over a slip of flame crepe de chine. Aliss Alollie Goodwin, wearing a frock of black and gold, with flouncing of silk net. Aliss E. Ryburn, who chose a frock of lupin blue satin beaute. Aliss AlcLachlan, who Wore a frock of salmon pink pleated georgette. Aliss At. Alourant, in a gown of flame shaded satin beaute. Aliss Wallace, wearing a vieux rose crepe de chine and georgette frock. Ariss N. Aickin, who wore an electric blue frilled georgette frock, relieved with diamente trimming. Miss AT. Aloss in a frock of ivory crepe de chine. Miss Alay Lippiatt, who wore turquoise blue crepe de chine. Ariss Chris. Gardiner, in powder blue taffeta, with, trimmings of Chantilly lace. Aliss S. Ryburne, who chose an amber taffeta frock, and shawl to harmonise. Aliss Par ton, wearing bullet blue crepe de chine, with trimmings of frilled net and oriental embroideries. Aliss Pinhey, who was in lichen green crepe satin, and shawl to tone. Aliss C. Ryburn, frocked in blush pink ring velvet, and shawl to match. Ariss Hilda Reeves, whose shot taffeta frock was in shades of pink. Aliss D. I. New, wearing midnight blue ring velvet, and shawl to tone. Aliss E. Todd, wearing a frock of orchid rose satin beaute, with reliefs of silver. Aliss Maude Jeffries, whose flame panne velvet frock was finished with a gay shoulder posy.

FOR ’QUAKE RELIEF

SUCCESSFUL ALBANY DANCE The Albany Coronation Hall was the scene of a very enjoyable social and dance given in aid of the earthquake relief fund recently by the Women’s Institute. Notwithstanding the unsettled weather, the attendance was good. Members of the institute staged a very laughable one-act play, “Tea and Scandal.” The characters were cleverly portrayed by ATesdames Collins, Gardiner and Schofield, and Alisses Bruton, Cowley, Jlooton, Potter and Sloane. Instrumental trios were given by Aliss Clemow (piano) and Messrs. Summers and Sloane (violin and ’cello). Miss ATunro gave soprano solos and Air. I-Jooton some humorous sketches. Mrs. Bruton, president of the institute, presided and the sum of nearly £9 was taken and will be devoted to the relief fund.
