PLEASING CONCERT
AEOLIAN ORCHESTRA’S SERIES WIDE MUSICAL RANGE Excellent interpretations of a wide range of music Avere provided for a largo audience last evening in the Lewis Eady Hall, when the Aeolian Orchestra gave its second concert of the eighth season. The conductor, Mr. TI. Plollinrake, handled the volume of the orchestra efficiently, and all the numbers were played with fine balance. The singers assisting Avere Miss Alma McGruer and Mr. Norman Tucker. Both gave encores. Puccini’s “Vissi d’arte,” from “Tosea,” Avas Miss McGruer’s first success, and Strange’s “Damon” was another of her main songs. Mr. Tucker sang “Lighterman Tom” with abandon, and “The Stockrider’s Song” was also cleverly given. Opening with Beetho\'en’s majestic number, “Fidelio,” the orchestra went through a delightful programme. German's three dances —country, pastoral and merrymakers’—from “Nell Gtvyn,” and Mozart’s “Symphony in G Major” were other numbers in the first part of the programme. Undoubtedly the feature of the second half of the programme was the playing of Coleridge Taylor’s concert suite. “La Caprice de Nannette” was the first of the numbers in the suite, “Demande et Response” was given but possibly the most finished playing was of the delicate third number, “La Tarantelle Fr6tillante.” Tho last number on the programme Avas Finck’s unusual composition,“March of the Giants.” The orchestra’s bass work was well done. Miss Maida Hooker was the accompaniste.
