“THE COHENS AND KELLYS” < ■ "The Cohens and Kellys/* an uproarious comedv-drama of unusual interest, continues to delight the audiences at tho Majestic Theatre. The ■ principal players are Charlie Murray, the popular comedian; George Sidney, another comedian of note: Vera Gordon, and Kate Price, while the sup- • porting cast includes Jason Robards, Olive Hasbrouck. Xat Carr, Bobby Gordon, and Mickey Bennett. The film has been directed by Harry Pollard, whose wide experience as a director of comedies has enabled him to make “The Cohens and Kellys” one of the most successful humorous films yet presented in Auckland. The story concerns two families, the Cohens and the Kellys, who live on the East Side of New York. The Irish father and son are policemen, while the Jewish father is the proprietor of a drapery store. Tim Kelly and Nannie Cohen fall in love, and, as they fear their parents’ disapproval, they are married secretly. Complications arise when the Cohens inherit a large fortune, and take up residence in a fashionable quarter, only to discover that the fortune really belongs to the Irish family. After a series of amusing adventures, the tale reaches a happy conclusion. The supporting programme, which is of the usual high standard set by the Majestic Theatre, includes a comedy, a gazette, and a brilliantly mounted Oriental stag© presentation, “The Lotus Flower,” by Miss Cecil Hall and her pupils. Excellent musical items are played by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra. The entirely new programme which will be presented on Friday will include two big features. The first of these is “The Air Circus/’ a thrilling and sensational aerial picture, dealing with modern commercial aviation in | America.
