“OWAIRAKA” SCHOOL

NAMING OF NEW BUILDING “Owairaka" is the name which should be bestowed upon the new school now being erected m Richardson Road, according to a decision reached by the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening. A letter was received from the Ddendalo School Committee regarding the naming of the new school, and asking support for the suggestion that the school be named either Owairaka or Green Leas. Mr. Fulton said that there was too much naming of schools after the roads in which they were situated. He thought that Owairaka, We old Maori name for the mountain, would be very suitable. The council decided to write to the Education Board supporting the proposal to name the school after the mountain.
