GRANTS TO RIDINGS Advice was received at a meeting of the Manukau County Council today from the Public Works Department of the payment of £1,193 7s 2d to the council’s account to be credited as follows:—* Main Highways Board. —Mangere Biding, £.232 2s sd; Pakuranga Riding, £37 ISs 7d;. Papakura Riding, £lB3 14s 8d; Papatoetoe Riding, £95 15s lOd; Turanga Riding, £ll 13s sd: Wairoa Riding, £2OO 7s 3d; Bull’s Bridge, £lsl 7s 3d; Ward’s Bridge, £ 184 Is. Government grant: Piro Stream Bridge, £96 6s 9d. The engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, reported that the construction of the Papakura Stream Bridge had proceeded steadily and was reaching an advanced stage. The bridge itself was very near completion, the linking-up of road slabs and details generally forming the major part of the remaining work. The closing' of reserves at the southern end of Mangere Bridge as public roads had been effected and gazetted. Application had been made for the vesting of the land in the Mangere Domain Board. The field survey required in preparing an estimate for concrete paving of the Panmure-Howick main highway had been completed, and the office portion of the work commenced. The building inspector reported that 14 applications for the erection of buildings and for alterations and additions to the total value of £4,564 had been received.
