MOTORISTS’ ORDEAL
PINNED UNDER LORRY TWO MEN INJURED (From Our Oven Correspondent) TE AW AM UT U, Monday. An accident occurred at Korakonui on Saturday evening, when Mr. William Thompson and Mr. Harry Purchase received injuries through the capsizing of a motor-lorry. The mishap occurred at a narrow part of the .road. Seeing a car approaching Mr. Thompson pulled to the side of the road to allow it to pass. The lorry got too close to the edge and went over the side, pinning Mr. Thompson underneath. Mr. Purchase managed to jump clear, and being unable to extricate Mr. Thompson be obtained assistance. The heavy vehicle could not be lifted so the earth was dug away from beneath the imprisoned man. After about two hours Mr. Thompson was extricated, and was attended to by Dr. Blundell. No bones were broken, but Mr. Thompson was badly bruised. Mr. Purchase’s injuries consisted of a severe cut on one leg. Both men were removed to a private hospital at Te Awamutu.
