HUNTLY The selected players of the combined teams, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton, and Huntly and Taupiri, played at Ngaruawahia under referee A. Harlock. The weather was wretched, with the result that it was more of a mud-lark-ing contest than football. Jones scored for the Huntly-Taupiri combination with a solo unconverted try. The questionable honour of receiving a ducking in a pool of water accompanied the distinction, much to Jones’s disgust. Through injuries Stephenson, Trautvetter, Paki, Smith and George Kayner were absent, while Zimmerman and Abbott for like reasons were missing from the Hamilton-Taupin thirteen. The latter kept its end up, however, Williams, King and its rieht threequarter (backs), with Menzies and Daley (forwards) doing well in the heavy going. D. Whorsey, Farrell, Jackaways and Jones (backs) and Timms, Mason and Grubv were prominent throughout in this “water polo" game for the solo try-getters. Huntly A and B teams battled it out on Bailey’s paddock under Mr. H. Raynor. At times this match developed into a Chinese Parliament affair, everybody talking and nobody listening. * Players must recognise that the paddock is not the place for jabbermOn Saturday the bontrol was lost, and the referee applied the closure about ten minutes before time, declaring the game off. Eight points each way was the tally, two tries and one converted goal to both sides. Till this cropped up, the As were having, if anything, the better of a hard game in the mud. Broughton at centre-threequarter and Knight, five-eighth, were in the thick of the play (and the rmid), while Geary, Knapper and A. Baker were noted in front doing good work. Among the B s Singer and North more (backs) , with Smith and Stevenson (forwards) were about the pick. Probably the union officials at their next meeting will have the incident brought under their notice. Huntlv A (colts) up-ended the Ngaruawahia team by 8 points to 3. This wa.s also another mud scramble and was anybody’s game till the final whistle. WHANGAREI Athletic's defeat at the hands of Waro came as a surprise to supporters of the code. A week previously. Athletic gave the leading team in the competition. Hikurangi, a sound drubbing to the tune of 32 points to 16, after being 11 points behind at half-time. Waro was slightly superior during the whole of the game. Athletic's points came from a magnificent kick from a long way out by A. Bauman. Members of the winning team to show to advantage were E. Meyer, C. Meyer, and T. Berghan, in the backs, and A. Wells, R. Wells, Hart, and Buchanan in the forward division. In the Athletic team, E. Hines, A. Conelly, M. Hines, C. Hume, and A. Bauman did their reputations no harm in the rearguard, while of the van, J. Conelly, M. McDonald, and B, Moody gave of their best. Wo.ro was certainly slightly superior, but 3-—2 would have been a better indication of the play than 8—2,8—2, the final score.
