Tolley, the amateur golf champion, £I,OOO damages for libel against Fry and Sons, chocolate manufacturers, for publishing ail advertisement in 64 newspapers, consisting of a limerick and a caricature, showing Tolley driving with chocolate in his pocket. The plaintiff complained that the advertisement suggested he was making money out of golf. He was extremely jealous of his amateur status. A stay of execution was granted on the ground that the damages were excessive.
