Endean, the well-known Auckland solicitor, returned from Sydney by the Marama this morning. Mr. E. S. Hunwick, director of the Northern Export Co., Ltd., returned from Australia this morning on the Marama. Mr. H. r. Thomas New Zealand manager for Metro - Gold wyn-May er Films, arrived from Wellington this morning by the Limited. Mr. and Mrs. H. Martin, of Gisborne, returned from a holiday visit to Sydney by the Marama, which arrived this morning. Mr. B. L. Dallard, Controller General of Prisons, reached Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington. Mr. J. McKinnon, chairman of the Hamilton Fire Board, who for the last three months has been seriously ill in Auckland, has returned to Hamilton. The Rev*. Cecil Watson, vicar of St. Paul’s Church, city, will leave for Wellington this evening by the Limited to attend a meeting of the Anglican Board of Missions executive. Mr. P. D. N. Verschaffelt, Public Service Commissioner, arrived from Wellington this morning. He will spend, several days in Auckland on official business. Mr. E. Caldwell, manager for the South British Insurance Company at Mombasa, East Africa, arrived by the Marama this morning on a holiday trip to New Zealand. Mr. J. Collett Dickinson, of Auckland, who is on the staff of the engineering firm of Sir John Jackson, Ltd., England, will go out to the Singapore base later in the year. The Rev. F. T. Palmer, of Brisbane, arrived this morning by the Marama. He will spend a holiday in New Zealand, touring the North and South Islands. Mr. A. C. Barnes, at present Assistant Director of Agriculture in Zanzibar, has been appointed Superintendent of Agriculture in Fiji. He is expected to take up his new duties toward the end of August. Sir Carrick Robertson, of Auckland, .who is visiting England, will be accompanied by his son, Mr. John Robertson, who has been at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, on his return to New Zealand. Mr. P. J. Drew, of Sydney, timber expert to the New South Wales Forestry Commission, is paying a business visit to New Zealand. He arrived in Auckland on the Marama this morning. Mr. W. A. Todd, manager of the Opotiki branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to the Masterton branch. Mr. H. Rowland, of the Cambridge branch, will succeed Mr. Todd at Opotiki. Mr. H. A. Raw’le. first assistant at the Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company's butter factory, has been appointed factory manager for the ‘Springhead Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., Whangarei. Miss Marjorie Macky takes the Sir George Grey scholarship for mathematics and botany at the Auckland University this year. The award was made by the College Council yesterday upon the recommendation of the Professors, Miss Macky being the only candidate applying. Mr. T. L. Lancaster, lecturer in botany at the Auckland University College, leaves at the end of November on a 12 months’ investigatory tour. He intends visiting Australia, South Africa, Great Britain, and Ceylon to extend his knowledge in botany. The College Council granted him the necessary leave of absence yesterday. The Rev. R. Hailey Trill, vicar of Te Awamutu, has tendered his resignation. He has accepted the charge of the Kaitaia parish, North Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Trill went to Te Awamutu from Vermont (United States) and Canada over two years ago. They probably leave Te Awamutu in September. Messrs. J. Reid, chairman, of the Opotiki County Council, G. Moody, Mayor of Opotiki, W. 11. Hogg, chairman of the Bay of Plenty Power Board, and B. C. Robbins, Mayor of Tauranga, proceed to Wellington tomorrow as a deputation to urge the Government to proceed with the section of the East Coast main trunk line between Tuneatua and Opotiki.
