MOVE AGAINST RUSSIA
CHINA CLOSES TRADING OFFICES SOVIET SERVANTS ARRESTED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SHANGHAI, Thursday. A message from Harbin says the offices of the Soviet Mercantile Fleet, the Far Eastern Trading Organisation, and the Naptha Syndicate were closed and sealed yesterday by the Chinese authorities. According to reports received here (today, 20 imported Soviet officials were arrested and will be deported to Russia, together with 40 Soviet railway employees and trade union officials. It is reported from a fairly reliable source that General Lu Yitng-guan. the Director-General of the Chinese Eastern Railway, has presented a Note to the Soviet directors of the same railway, demanding the cessation of Soviet propaganda by Russians employed on that railway. The Chinese also took over control of the telegraph services. Peking Is reported to be greatly exerted, and to be awaiting developments anxiously.
