Hector Gray’s Ban Has Been Removed
JOCKEY’S PETITION CONFERENCE GRANTS PLEA (Special to THE SUE) WELLINGTON, Today. Hector Gray, one-time leading horseman in the Dominion, who, in 1925, was disqualified for life, today made a successful appeal to the New Zealand Racing Conference for the removal •of the ban. j At the annual meeting of the New ! Zealand Racing Conference today, Hector Gray, disqualified by the Can- ! terbury Jockey Club for life in 1925, petitioned for the removal of his disqualification. His application vas ’ supported by his employer, Mr. W. C. King, senr. Mr. C. F. Vallance considered that it was only fair that Grav should be given another chance. Mr. W. H. Gaisford said that Gray had been disqualified for something but many members of the conference i did not know just what. Mr W. T. Hazlett said that it was known that Gray had offered the owner of a horse £SO to scratch that horse, but there were also other rum : ours freely circulated. “We should not stop a man fron 5 coming back when he has made ar earnest and honest endeavour tc make amends,” said Mr. H. F. Doogai (Grevmouth Jockey Club), and he moved that the ban on Gray be lifted Mr W. H. Gaisford seconded the motion, which was supported b: Messrs. W. H. Wackrow. Ewen Camp bell, L. A. Nolan and G. W. Vercoe. Mr. C. G. Dalgety asked if the con ; ference had ever removed a disquali fication without referring the case back to the body imposing same. The 1 chairman said that to the best o his knowledge this had not been done The motion to raise Gray’s disquali fication was carried, the two Cantei !! bury Jockey Club’s representative : being the only delegates to vot ' | against the motion.
