MOCK BANKRUPTCY

COMMERCE STUDENTS’ JOKE

The humorous side of the law was emphasised last evening, when the Auckland University Commerce Students’ Society held a mock bankruptcy. Mr. J. Andrews, as the bankrupt, Egbert Montmorency Snooks, appeared before Mr. Julius Hogben, who acted as official assignee. After bankrupt’s statement had been read he was subjected to a searching cross-examin-ation and various creditors presented their claims. The bankrupt’s counsel. Mr. B. Squeeze, acted by Mr. .T. N. Wilson, made several notable and useful suggestions, but they were frowned upon by Mr. E. Mcllroy, who, as Mr. Bald Skeleton, represented some of the creditors. Mr. L. W. Swan, as Mr. Legerdemain, bankrupt’s accountant, performed miracles with liis client's books.
