SPIRIT OF GERMAN ARMY

WHAT FATHERLAND NOW REQUIRES HIGH TRADITIONS OF OLD Times Cable Reed. 9 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. “The Times” correspondent at Berlin says the War Minister, General Wilhelm Groener, in a speech to cadets at the opening of a school at Muerwik described the spirit which should animate the present German Army. He said it was not enough to be an ordinary soldier. “What is wanted is a thorough soldier without weakness—one capable of* performing more than is performed elsewhere.” The crushing limitations under which Germany existed prevented the army from being properly equipped, but one thing they could have was superiority of spirit. “The will and character of our old Army and Navy were wonderful instruments of war. Their traditions must never be forgotten.”
