BAY OF ISLANDS ROUTE
“The Paihia road is the route to the Bay of Islands and we want it improved,” Mr. R. A. Champtaloup service officer, told members of the council of the A.A.A. last evening. H* was commenting' upon advice from the district engineer and representation! from Mr. Atkinsom chairman of th* Bay of Islands County Council, appealing for the association’s support to secure improvement of the route The service officer, however, vms of the opinion that the local people, ip seeking: to have tt deviation constructed were asking too much. The council agreed to apply to the Public Works Department for a grant to effect improvements and to leave the decision, whether the deviation was necessary, to the district engineer. The suggestion that there would be a “cut” in Government grants for roads in the Xorth was also mentioned, and the association unanimously agreed to urge reinstatement of grants.
