Hospital Board Says It Made a Mistake
WAIKATO ARCHITECT REGISTERED FIRM APPOINTED (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. The Waikato Hospital Board rescinded the resolution appointing Mr. A. MacDonald, an unregistered architect, as the board s architect, and made a fresh appointment. Mr. W. R. Lowry said the House and Finance Committee had agreed that applications from registered architects only should be considered, as that condition had never been rescinded. He contended that al! proceedings tor the appointment of Mr. MacDonald were irregular and invalid. Mr. J. J. Ryburn remarked that, the board had done wrong in appointing a man who did not comply with the stipulations. Mr. MacDonald had had an unfair advantage over other registered architects, who might have applied if the condition had not been made. The chairman, Mr. Campbell Johnstone, agreed that the board had erred and said he would accept his share of the responsibility. The board went into committee, and on resumption passed a resolution appointing Edgecumbe and White, of Hamilton, to the position. The board's solicitor having expressed the opinion that with regard to the work of drawing plans for the | proposed maternity ward, Mr. J. W j Warren, the late architect, was only j entitled to 4 per cent, cn the esti 1 mated cost, it was resolved that Mr Warren be paid these fees subject tc his handing all plans and specifica pious to the boar<L
