NEW C.O. FOR WAIKATO
RECORD OF GREAT WAR SERVICE Recently appointed to the command of the First Battalion of the Waikato Regiment. Lieutenant-Colonel It. U>. McFarland, M.C., served through the Great War. He sailed with the Auckland College Rifles in 1914 and took part in the capture of Samoa, later serving in France with the Second Battalion of the Auckland Regiment for the remainder of the war. He was wounded in 1918 at the capture of La Signy Farm and received the Military Cross at the second Battle of the Somme, being promoted to the rank of major after the capture of Le Quesnoy. He is a son of Canon McFarland, of Auckland, and is a solicitor at Hamilton.
