AT LONDON TODAY
SOUTHERN CROSS FLYING FROM ROME 13 DAYS FROM AUSTRALIA (United P.A.—By Telegraph. — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. D a.m. ROME, Tuesday. The monoplane Southern Cross, with Squadron-Leader Kings ford Smith,, Flight-Lieutenant C. T. P. Ulm (co-pilots), Mr. H. A. Litchfield (navigator) and Mr. T. H. McWilliams (wireless operator), in continuation of the flight to England, reached Athens from Bagdad yesterday at 7 p.m. The airmen left Athens for Rome this morning and arrived here at 2.35 p.m. The monoplane will leave Rome at dawn on Wednesday, and the airmen expect to- reach London that afternoon. Should the Southern Cross reach Croydon this afternoon, the flight from Derby, Western Australia, will have taken 13 days. Bert Hinkler flew alone from England to Australia in 15J days. Following are the details of the flight of the Southern Cross to date: June 25. —Left Richmond, Sydney, for Derby, Western Australia, about 2,100 miles. June 26.—Arrived at Derby after flight of 22 hours 5 minutes. June 27.—Left Derby for Singapore, about 2,020 miles, 5.40 p.m. June 28. —Arrived at Singapore. June 29.—Left Singapore and lauded at Singora, Siam, about 458 miles. June 30.—Arrived at Rangoon, Burma. from Singora, about 690 miles. July I.—Plane at Rangoon. July 2.—Left Rangoon and arrived at Calcutta, about 660 miles. July 3.—Flew from Calcutta, to Allahabad, about 460 miles. July 4.—Flew from Allahabad to Karachi, about S9O miles. July s.—Plane at Karachi. July 6. —Left Karachi for Basra and Bagdad, Iraq. July 7.—Arrived at Basra from Karachi, about 1,350 miles, and flew on to Bagdad, another 350 miles. July S. —Arrived at Athens from Bagdad, about 1,290 miles. July 9.—Arrived at Rome from Athens, about 600 miles.
