MR. J. F. ARNOLD Mr. James Frederick Arnold, for 12 years a member of the House of Representatives for Dunedin, has died at Timaru at the age of 70. —P.A. MR. CHARLES LEVET Air. Charles Levet, who has died at the age of 82, arrived in New Zealand from England in the ship Hanover in 1862, his parents being among the first Albertland settlers. For several years Mr. Levet worked on his father’s farm and when the first block of land was opened at Moteo North he took up property with his older brothers. Later he sold his interest in the farm and acquired land at Hairini, but later farmed at Mangere for 20 years, retiring in 1926. Air. Levet is survived by his wife and two sons, Mr. R. Levet, of Mount Albert, and Mr. I. Levet, of Wairaauku. There are seven grandchildren. MRS. M. J. PEAT The death of Mrs. Mary Jane Peat occurred in a private hospital at Whangarei on Monday. She was born at Wanganui 78 years ago, her father being Sergeant-Major Daniel Hughes. Twenty-three years'ago Mrs. Peat and her husband paid a visit # to England and on their return Mr. Peat purchased a small property at Kamo. Mrs, Peat took an active part in the Women’s Club and Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Mr. James Peat, died 10 years ago. REV. W. S. FERNIE A former minister of the Courtena.y Place Congregational Church, the Rev. William S. Fernie, died in Wellington on Sunday at the age of 83. Coming from South Australia to the Wellington church, Mr. Fernie was minister there for about eight years. He then accepted a call to Dunedin, but after nine years retired from the ministry and moved to Wellington, where, he lived with his only child, Mrs. D. E. Barnes. Mrs. Fernie died about 12 years ago. At the time of his death, Mr. Fernie was a deacon of the Terrace Congregational Church. MRS. BRIDGET BOYLE The death of Mrs. Bridget Boyle has occurred at Muntly at the age of 75 years. Born in Ireland she came to New Zealand when 15 years of age. and before going to live at Muntly was a resident of Greymouth and Reeftoij. Her husband, who died only a week previously, was an engine-driver, for the Railway Department. There are three- sons and four daughters. Both Air. and Mrs. Boyle, who were greatly respected, were buried in Kimihia Cemetery.
