MT. ROSKILL WATER

QUESTION OF PRESSURES *

A report was made by Mr. S. J. ! Goodall to the Mount Roskill Road j Board last evening on the result of an ; interview with the One Tree Mill Road j Board on the question of an additional supply of water. ! Mr. Goodall said that to augment the ! present supply it would be necessary ! for the One Tree Mill Board to install lan additional pumping plant. Pie said I that the One Tree Mill Board would I not incur the necessary expense unless j a legal contract covering a definite period were entered into. Mount Roskill would require 46,000 gallons a day in winter and 00,000 gallons a day in the summer months, and if the board would agree to take the water lie was assured that it could get a substantial reduction on the price charged by the Auckland City Council. Mr. G. E. Tansley said the cost of the additional plant would be passed on to the Mount Roskill ratepayers which he considered would nullify any anticipated reductions in price. They could not expect to get cheaper water under such conditions. Mr. E. A. Pearce doubted whether the One Tree Mill Board could give j the necessary pressure for the higher levels in St. Andrew’s Road, but the chairman, Mr. El. F. Jones, pointed out that the reservoir on One Tree Mill was some 20ft higher than the City Council reservoir, and whereas the pressure from the city’s supply was only 4olb to the square inch, that from On© Tree Hill was 1021 b. A motion by Mr. Tansley that a deputation be appointed to interview the Waterworks Committee of the City Council was lost, the chairman remarking that negotiations should be finalised with the One Tree Mill Board ho having assured that body that he was not dealing with any other local authority. The report was adopted and the engineer instructed to furnish a further report on the pressures to be obtained from One Tree Mill, Auckland and Onehunga.
