WITH THE BOY SCOUTS

A new troop has been formed in the Marist Brothers’ School. Vermont Street, Ponsonby, and the first parade was held last Monday with a roll of 32 boys. Mr. L. Coleman is in charge of the troop as Scoutmaster, with Father Bradley as Chaplain. Tt is likely that several more troops will be started in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Auckland. Owing to other activities, the next meeting of the Club Officers will not be held until August 12. *>•'«***» The Advisory Board will meet at headquarters^on Thursday, July 11. A pound night will be held bv the St. Alban’s Troop on Friday. July 12. The First-Class Test examinations will be held at Western Springs on Saturday, July 13. The?*o will be a Scouter at Western Springs in charge of the grounds from 12.30 p.m. Boys taking the cooking test will take orders from him as to where fires may be lit. The St. Aidan’s Troop will hold a birthday celebration next Saturday evening at St. Aidan’s Parish I-lall, Ascot Avenue. No. 1 Division Grey Eagle reports for Xo. 1 Division and for the West Street Church of Christ Troop: “A meeting of , Scouters of No. 1 Division was held at West Street last Saturday. The attendance was not all that could be desired, but, in spite of this fact, business was satisfactorily dealt with. “It was decided to hold another Inter-Troop pound night on July 26. “A number of remits were also carried, and these will be brought up at the next meeting of the Advisory Board. “On Saturday, the West Street Church of Christ Troop held the usual meeting, but had the pleasure of a visit from District Cubmaster X. Ke inspected the troop and later addressed the Scouts, also presenting one of our members with his artist’s badge, the Scout having qualified recently. “On Sunday, July 7, we held our church parade, but the number was small owing to the weather.” Little Thunder reports for the First Papakura Troop: "Wo celebrated our third birthday last Friday e-vening in the Star Theatre. Beechy. also gave a satisfactory report of the financial state of the troop, and then Scoutmaster H. A. P. Slessor reported on the year’s progress. Fraser (2nd All Round Cords, Pioneer Badge), Patrol-Leader Earl (Pioneer), PatrolLeader ,T. Goddard, Second P. Tasker, Scouts Easton and Kerr (Cyclist). “The following boys were enrolled: Barratt (2), Boyd, Hansen and Wallace. “The shield for the year was won by the Seagull Patrol. This patrol also won the special prize offered for the most money collected for the building fund within two months. We received the present of a miniature cup from the Papakura Girl Guides.”

A successful evening was hold by the Richmond Cub Pack at their headquarters, Falder Avenue, last Tuesday, the function being attended by a. large number of parents and friends.
