AMATEUR BOXING
TOURNEY AT TE AWAMUTU * (From Our Own Correspondent) \ TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. The principal event at the second ] tourney of the 1929 season promoted by the Te Awamutu Young Men’s- Institute, was the contest for the Muir Cup between the holder, C. Craig (Te Awamutu), 9st. 131 b., and the challenger, C. McKnight (Auckland), lOst. There was little between the pair in the first round, McKnight doing most of the leading. The second round was lively, with Craig boxing well. In ! round three honours were even. The •next round opened quietly. Craig I scored with good straight lefts. Craig j forced the fight in the fifth round, and i drove hard to the ribs and face. Solid punching marked the final round. Craig received the verdict. The results of the other bouts were:— W. Ryan (Te Awamutu) defeated O. Bradley (Frankton); P. Bradley (Frank - ton) lost to J. Fleming (Te Awamutu); H. Bennett (Te Awamutu) defeated C. Haddon (Taumarunui); E. Adams (Te Awamutu) beat A. Peck (Te Awamutu); J. Wilson (Frankton) lost to J. Roper (Taumarunui); R. Fox (Franl&ton) defeated King (Taupiri); J. Horan (Te Awamutu), 10.2, defeated Bennett (Cami bridge), 9.10; B. Mutton (Frankton) lost to Craig (Te Awamutu); G. Frear (CarnI bridge), 13.8, beat S. Litt (Taupiri), 13.1. i Mr. F. Burns was the referee. MULLINS WINS AT TAUMARUNUI Reports reaching Auckland stated that on Saturday evening at the amateur tournament at Taumarunui. Litt defeated T. Mullins, the Auckland light-heavy-weight. These were incorrect, as Mullins had an easy win on points in what was described as a first-class exhibition.
