CONFERENCE OF PROVINCIAL CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE MANY REMITS SUBMITTED The first .uinual conference of th« Associated Chamber* of Commerce c>: the Auckland Province was opened this afternoon, the president of th«* Auckland Chamber, Mr. H. T. Merritt presiding. This morning the visiting delegates were taken on a tour of industrial establishments in and about the city, the Chelsea Sugar Works, and th glass factory at Penrose being amon : the places visited. Remits are being submitted to the conference by the Auckland. Te Aw a - mutu. Eden, Coromandel, Opotiki, Okai liau and Papakura Chambers. In extending a welcome to the dele gates at the opening of the conference, the chairman said that the assembly was the first of its kind held in the Dominion- It was a logical sequel to the commerce train last year which w as sent-On its journey to foster cordial feelings between town and country members. The Town v. Country question was, fortunately, dying a quick and painless death. All realised that it was a fallacious doctrine dictated by people with selfish interests to serve. Town and eouptry were interdependent, and it was with the idea of accelerating the feelings of cordiality between the two that the conference was called.
