DRUNK BUT RESPONSIBLE

MAGISTRATE’S RULING Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Hugh Mayne, aged 58, who was charged at Wellington with assault and causing actual bodily harm to Walter Green, was fined £ 10. Half of the fine is to go to Green. Mayne and another lodger, both drunk, locked out their landlady, who appealed to Green, a neighbour. He opened the door and Mayne rushed at him and stabbed him in the leg with a pocket knife. The magistrate, Mr. E. Page, said that Mayne’s drunkenness was a voluntary act; therefore he was responsible for his actions while drunk.
