WESTFIELD STOCK SALE BIC ENTRY OF YOUNG CALVES WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. An agg* egate yarding of 421 head of ox beef met with a steady demand at Westfield today. Prices held practically at late rates. Best ox beef made to 37s a hundred; best young cow and heifer made to 33s a hundred. The rough weather of the past few days accounted for the beef offering not looking its best, but, nevertheless, it was made up of some of the finest<i aality cattle seen in the yards for 'me weeks. There was a big percen- : , r e of heavy-weight steers. Vendors from all parts of the district contributed to the offering. South Auckland graxiers’ lots predominating. There re several particularly choice quality <uttle forward from the Upper WaiBidding on tho ox beef held fairly steady throughout, although an easing ndency was noted for the bigger cattle. Top price of the day was secured for me beast* in a line of 22 extra heavy prime well-finished steers offered on account of W. E. Short. Matamata. The beast was sold to E. Wilson, Eden Terrace, for £l7. A line of 16 exceptionally choice'iiiality steers on account of W. v osper, Cambridge, made to £l6 for 11 pen which went to T. Baster, Ponsonby. Twenty solid prime steers, on account of R. C. Morgan, Matamata, made to ~15. This line was good buying. Sixteen, medium-quality heavy prime t'-’rs. on account of G. Ring, Minueia, made to £l4 17s 6d. Eight steers on account of A. W. -Ulev, Hikutuia, made up to £l2 2s 6d. A line of 48 exceptionally choice Prime young cattle, on account of the Guardian Trust, made up to £ls 7» 6d. The cov* offering showed little of outstanding quality, and, numerically, :he offering, comprising only four ruws » Tvas the lowest for several wooks. Top price in the cow and heifer sec!!°n was received for a line of exceptionally choice prime heifers, which •jude up to £ll ss, one pen going to D. TTicleson, Epsom, at that price. The Srcat?r part of the lino was passed in. An exceptionally heavy yarding of comprised a big percentage of and fresh-dropped sorts. Local irmers were particularly heavy J-ndors. The sale was continued till on into the afternoon.
