“HOW MUCH FOR THIS?”
P. AND T. DEPARTMENT’S OLD CARS SOLD AUCTIONEER’S BUSY DAY “Come on, now! How much for this car? It’s in real good shape.” rjiHE Post and Telegraph Department held a sale of used motor-cars and trucks at the depot, Stanley Street, today, when a large crowd of buyers and spectators assembled. Bidding for some cars was keen, but in others the auctioneer, Mr. L. Coaklev, had trouble in getting bidding started. However, plenty of talk and humorous sallies awakened response, and the selling went on. The auctioneer stopped before a Ford truck apparently without means of locomotion. "It’s all right.” he said. “The en- ! gine is in the back and look what a ! lot of fun you’ll have putting it toi getlier.” j Before a dilapidated specimen; I “Here’s a cracker jack! ” j "By Jove, your right,” came from a | possible buyer, who had been searching among the innermost workings. After a good start business went briskly and in a little over an hour the cars had been disposed of to new owners. The best price of the day was for a five-seater Oakland car, which realised £4O. A Morris-Oxford brought £3O and a Trojan £2O. Fords were in abundance and the best of these realised £l7 10s. The lowest price was £2 15s for an old Ford. Other prices ranged from £5 to £l7 10s. Three motor-cycles brought spirited bidding especially that which realised the highest price, a Harley-Davidson which brought £ll 13s. Two Royal Enfields brought £1 15s and £0 10s respectively. A large number of bicycles were also offered and sold, in addition to various ! odd lots.
