AUSTRALIAN STATISTICIAN SEES SIGNS EXPORTS EXCEED IMPORTS CANBERRA, Tuesday. The Commonwealth Statistician, Mr. C. Wickens, states that although Australia is passing through a period of economic depression there are signs of the position improving. The latest trade figures for the financial year ended June SO indicate that there will be a balance of exports Over imports of about £5,00.0,000. The migration figures were lower last year than for years past. The birth-rate also was lower. The deathrate was higher. Mr. Wickens remarks that periods of depression always are accompanied by. a lower birth-rate and a higher death-rate.
