Obituary

MR. jOSEPH SLEVIN Mr. Joseph K. Slevin. who has died fit the Waihi District Hospital at the of 73, was born in Kingseourt. County Cavan. Ireland, and came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Carisbrook Castle in 1876. After farming at Katikati until about 1890, he went to Waihi, where he entered business. Later he was appointed foreman of works to the Waihi Borough Council, relinquishing that post about five years ago to enter business again. Associated with the conversion of Waihi into a borough, Mr. Slevin was a member of the first council, holding his seat for two terms. For many years he was a member of the Waihi Hospital Board and for some time was the chairman. Since his arrival at Waihi he had been associated with St. James’s Presbyterian Church. Mr. Slevin is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter. i
