FAIRY OPERETTA

ENTERTAINMENT BY MILFORD GUIDES Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, had some interesting tilings to say when He introduced Mrs. H. M. Scales, producer of the fairy operetta, “A Rose Dream,"’ at the Picturedrome, Milford, last evening. QPEAKIXG to a full house, Mr. Williamson stated the total personnel of Girl Guides throughout the world now exceeded 800,000. In Milford the local company had in one year increased its numbers from 7 to 45. I-Ie congratulatd the Milford Guides on their enterprise in staging such a fine operetta. i The production of the play by the j children bespoke of long and careful 1 training upon the part of those reI sponsible. The stage represented a fascinating fairy glade, and the chil- ! dren revelled in the unfolding of the i plot. The chorus work was of high merit, while a ballet danced by Miss Sylvia Scales was recalled again and again. The main characterisations were taken by Joan Cadness, Sylvia Scales, Joan Brown, Fleurette Burns, Joyce Kean. Barbara Goodwin, Iris Williams and Dorothy Cadness. Under the leadership of Miss Christensen, the orchestra played the spirited music incidental to the operetta in a. well-executed manner. The pretty frocking of the children was the handiwork of Mesdames David, Goodwin and Christensen. The Milford Guide funds should be considerably increased as the result of the entertainment. BRIDGE AFTERNOON An enjoyable, bridge party was given at the Lyceum Club yesterday afternoon. Mrs. I. K. Wickstead. of Epsom Avenue, being the hostess. Tea was served in the lounge, which was arranged with bowls of flowers. .Among those present were:—Mrs. Aoheson, Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Richardson Mrs. Carr-Williams, Mrs. Hut ter. Mrs. Buchanan.
