AUCKLAND HOPES

CANDIDATES FOR TRENTHAM The following horses from the Auckland Province have been paid up for the first day, tomorrow, of the Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting:— Vittoria Hurdles.—Master Doon and Glena Bay*. Woburn Handicap.—Arihana and Mark Mint. First Hack Steeples.—Glendowie and Boomerday. Stewards' Handicap. Billikins, Marble King, Takutama and Waltzer. Wellington Steeplechase. Kawini, Glendowie, King’s Guard, Kauri Park, and Kamehameha. Trentham Hurdles.—Bright Land* and Prince Lu. Whyte Handi cap.—l-ligh Pitch. Paddon, Oliinemuri, Taneriri and Tinokoa. Te Aroha Handicap.—Maori Boy and Justify. Winter Hurdles (third day).—Bright Land, King’s Guard and Prince Lu. Horses that are regarded as doubtful starters are marked with an asterisk. When He Fell There was no doubt that with a change of riders Merry Mint was heavily backed in the open seven on the middle day of the Great Northern meeting. 1-Ie met with some trouble when racing prominently in the leading division a furlong from the judge, and he came down a little further on. On that showing Merry Mint should be expected to play no small part in the handicap flat events at Trentham this week. His first day engagement is the Whyte Handicap.
