GOVERNMENT CRITICISED NEGLECT OF N.Z. INDUSTRY Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council on Saturday: “In view of the fact that the Government has placed orders outside New Zealand for which no employers in New eZaland were permitted to tender this council invites the co-operation of the New Zealand Ironmasters’ Federation, the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association and unions and associations of workers in the iron trades to join in an effort to prohibit such works leaving New Zealand without having been first submitted to open competition. This work can be done as speedily and as well here as elsewhere. Further, the council considers that this action of the Government is a flagrant breach of trust which demands a public inquiry. It is aggravated when viewed in conjunction with the fact that New Zealand workers are unemployed and looking for work.”
