KEEN BOWLING
MOUNT EDEN FINAL WON BY CLARKE’S RINK CLOSE EDWIN STARS GAME The chief bowling contests on Saturday were the Edwin Stars match between Ponsonby and Hillsborough and the final of the King’s Birthday tournament at the Mount Eden green. Conditions l'or bowling were excellent for this time of the year and some excellent contests were witnessed in the club and inter-club series. In the Mount Eden final Horsley, Cox, Hardley and Clarke carried too many guns for Ilardie Xeil, Macky, Moir and Walker, but it was a splendidly contested game right to the finish. Irving Clarke’s rink went ahead shortly before the end, beating Maxwell Walker’s four by 16 points to 13. The crack Edwin Stars rink, skipped by Parsons, of Ponsonby, had an exciting tussle with Thompson’s Hillsborough four. The two skips had a great set-to on the final head, where Parsons’ fine drawing won the game for Ponsonby by 19 points to 16.
