In connection with the 48th anniversary of the Te Aroha Methodist Church special services are being held in the 1 church. A concert held on Thursday evening in the hall drew a large at- 1 tendance. The Rev. H. J. O’Dell pre- ' sided and a long programme was thor- 1 oughly enjoyed. Outstanding items ] were given by the male quartet and 1 Mr. R. Walton. ] The Terriers’ Football Club, which won the championship in the Piako : Union, celebrated the event in connection with its annual tea, which was generously provided by the president, Mr. S. Davies. Following a long series J of toasts, a most enjoyable smoke concert took place. * * * . At a well-attended meeting held in the Te Puninga School it was decided to form a literary, debating and L dramatic society, and to hold meetings i j fortnightly. The following officers were elected: . President. Mr. H. Skiffington: vice-pre- i sidents, Messrs. Daker.s and Lindsay; I secretary and treasurer. Miss R. Hal- | i len: committee. Messrs. R. Patterson, | i C. Case. F. Downing and Misses bakers and Newbegin. The settlers on Patterson’s Block > have decided to build a hall near the * | factory, and as a sum of money has i 1 already been raised for the purpose. ’ the work will begin almost immedi--5 I ately.
