AMALGAMATION OPPOSED
HUNGA HUNGA’S DECISION The report on the conference recently called to consider amalgamation of the four drainage boards in the Thames Valley was presented by the clerk to the Hunga Hunga Drainage Board yesterday. The movement which has caused a considerable stir in drainage circles has found favour with the Waitoa Board, but came in for considerable discussion at yesterday’s meeting. The chairman, Mr. F. Hughes, said that with one superviser under amalgamation they would get better vice at less cost than under the tMßfcvidual board system. He could so# ** possible danger in the movement, the benefits w r ere easily apparent, •f'tf it was only after considerable that he now favoured amalgamate Mr. Mathers held that an of opinion should be had from the rfcfcw payers, but he thought the better nmik would be to set up a Government *'-’*«*■ mission and bring in the entire shed. After further discussion, Mr. Mathers moved that the question be left in the hands of the ratepayers. The chairman pointed out that the first motion must be w’hether the board approved of the resolution passed by the recent conference. Upon w'hich Mr. Mathers, seconded by Mr Orr, moved that the Hunga Hunga Drainage Board did not approve of the resolution passed at the conference in favour of an amalgamated control board.
