Obituary

MR. M. MACLEAN Well-known in Waipu, Mr. Murdocli Maclean died at the Whangarei Hospital this week at the age of 79 after a short illness. Born at Boularderie Island, Capo Breton, Nova Scotia, Mr. Maclean arrived in New Zealand with his parents in the ship Breadalbane in 1858, and after some months in Auckland went to Waipu. Later he went to Fiji and Australia, and in 1922 he arrived back at Waipu after being away for 45 years. MR. JOHN HOUGHTON A member of one of the pioneer families in the Auckland Province, Mr. John Houghton, died at his home at Muriwai on Thursday at the age of Arriving in Auckland with his father from England in 1862 during the height of the Maori War, Mr. Houghton spent his youth on his father’s farm in the 1 Kaipara district, and subsequently went | to the Waikato. About 15 years ago J in partnership with his brother-in-law i he took up fruit farming at Hender- j son, and when the. farm was sold moved I ' to Muriwai, where he lived with his | son, Mr. Harold Houghton, not far l from th© beach. Mr. Houghton is survived by his { wife, one son. Mr. Harold Houghton. I j and on© daughter. Miss Kathleen \ ! Houghton. There are five brothers and J sisters. Mr. C. V.
