The test match between the All Blacks and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground tomorrow is the first that has been played between the two countries since 1914.
In that year, Dick Roberts captained a touring New Zealand side, which played ten matches in Xew South Wales and Queensland. It won the lot, including three tests, and piled up the huge total of 246 points to 50. Then came the war. When the next New Zealand team went over in 1920 it found that Rugby was defunct in Queensland, and New South Wales was battling along, playing a lone hand against strong League opposition. The first test played between New Zealand and Australia was in 1903 at Sydney, when Jimmy Duncan's side trounced the Aussies by 22 points to 3. In the opinion of many good judges, this was the Finest team New Zealand ever sent abroad. There was only one test that year. In 1907, 1910 and 1914 there were three tests. The only test the All Blacks ever lost in Australia was that at Sydney in 1910. score 11 to nil. In both countries 14 tests have been played between the All Blacksand the Aussies. New Zealand has i won 12, lost two, and drawn one.
