THE SYSTEM’S WRONG
T{ N DE R the heading of vJ “Burglary,” the “Sydney Sportsman” asks the following pertinent question in connection with English Rugby League clubs signing up colonial players:How would it be if English clubs bought up half the prospective Australian team before it signed up for the trip? What a possibility! But that’s just what could be put over under the existing state of affairs. Star N.Z. winger Hardgrave has listened to the call of cash and leaves fcr England on July 3, to play for St. Helens, and n’o one can blame him for grabbing his chances.
But the system’s all wrong. In their own country English clubs would have to buy players from other clubs, but when they want an Enzed or Aussie they merely flash the gilt and beckon them across without anyone here having a kick that’s worth a darn.
