TOFU A RETURNING.— Leaving Suva at noon today for Auckland, the l nion Company’s Island passenger steamer Tofua is due here next Monday. Ane vessel sails from Auckland on Saturday. Julv 13. at 11 a.m., on her return trip to Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. KAIKORAI ARRIVING. A further radio message received by the local office of the Union Company states that the collier Kaikorai is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at five o clock this afternon from Newcastle. she later berths at the King s Wharf to land her cargo, after which she pays off ana undergoes overhaul and survey here. lONIC FROM HOME. —No further radio has been received from the «lute Star liner lonic, which is due at Auckland at noon on Saturdady from Domion, and Southampton. The vessel will b«.rth at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and part cargo before pro- ! ceeding to Wellington. L. D. Nathan l and Company will act as local agents. ! CARGO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA. — Cable advice has been -eceived by the ; local office of the Union Company that I the steamer Kurow, from Adelaide, | Edithburg, and Wallaroo, left Melbourne at 3.30 p.m. last Tuesday for Bluff. Dunedin. Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth and Auckland. She is due at Bluff next Monday and at Auckland about July 15.
MATSON OCEANIC LINE. —An agreement has been reached betwen the Matson Navigation Company and the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation for the construction of three new passenger liners for the Australian and Far East services of the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Corporation. The three vessels, states the New York “Journal of Commerce,” will be built at the Fore River plant of the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation at a cost of 7,000,000 dollars each. This represents a reduction of approximately 1,500,000 dollars from the original Bethlehem bid. The reduction, it was stated, was the result of a compromise, the Matson Company agreeing to a revision of plans which reduced the length of the vessels from 625 ft as originally planned to 585 ft, or approximately the same dimensions as the three turboelectric liners of the Panama Pacific Line. The Matson liners will have geared turbine drive and a speed in excess of IS knots.
KENT’S MOVEMENTS.—The w*. office of the New Zealand Shipping Cote pany advises that the Federal steams Kent leaves Wellington tomorrow fJ. Napier thence Gisborne and Auckland, 2 fill up for Home. She is due here on Sm tux-day week, and is scheduled to clear this port finally on July 16 for London and West Coast ports of England, vii Panama.
BARON PENTLAND IN PORT Th« steamer Baron Pentland arrived in the stream at Auckland this morning f rom Iquique, and later berthed at the Queen’* Wharf to unload the local portion of her nitrates, under the agency of Henderson and Macfarlane. The vessel is expected to leave here tomorrow for Sydney, bourne, Adelaide, and Fremantle, to complete discharge.

Xgapuhi is sailing for New Plymouth at 3 o’clock this afternoon. She is due back at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday. Arapawa is to be dispatched for Opunuke and "Wanganui at 3 p.m. today. Hauturu. due from Raglan. Kawhia and "Waikato Heads on Saturday morning, is scheduled to sail for Hokianga at noon that day. Hokianga was to leave for Hokianga, at noon today.
