N.Z. SQUADRON’S VISIT TO AUSTRALIA SUCCESSFUL IN MANOEUVRES Press A ssociation WELLINGTON, Today. The following has been received from a member of the New Zealand Squadron, dated Brisbane, June 21: —• “After leaving New Zealand, H.M.S. Dunedin and H.M.S. Diomede, both representing battle cruisers, took part in manoeuvres with the Australian, forces, and, contrary to reports which have appeared in Australian papers, were successful in breaking through the defending forces. In a regatta at Hervey Bay, the Djomede won the gigs’ race, also the stokers’ and whalers’ race, and the Dunedin and Diomede were in first place equal in. other races. On June 19 the New Zealand cruisers carried out long-range torpedo firing at the Australian squadron. and later the same day arrived at Brisbane. “A civic reception was given to the cruisers on June 21, and the ships were open to visitors on the following Saturday, a special invitation being given to school children. On Monday. June 24. in response to a special request from the city, ships’ companies landed and inarched through Brisbane, the salute being taken by the Governor.”
