BUSINESS OR PLEASURE?
PROTEST AT WAIKATO SYNOD
LAYMEN IN A HURRY (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. A strong protest at the Waikato Diocesan Synod, sitting for only three hours today, was made by Mr. V. W. Seton (Putaruru) at this evening’s session. Mr. Seton said that laymen had to return to their businesses and it was wrong to have a smoke concert tonight, when synod should be finishing its business. Bishop Cherrington explained that the Waikato Synod sat in shorter time than any in New Zealand. Mr. E. A. Bruce (Te Aroha) said he understood the Taranaki members were departing on Friday morning. The Bishop: None of them leaves without my permission. Canon Kayll remarked that it had been said in the past that synods were too dry, and it was felt a smoke concert would be generally appreciated. A motion that the smoke concert arrangements be cancelled was lost.
